What is Counselling?
The vicissitudes of human experience often bring forth situations that overwhelm us, exceeding our capacity to cope. And while the situations we come across may not always be in our control, our attitude towards it, and subsequently our response to it, always is. It is times like these that our team of psychologists offer a supportive and non-judgmental environment, and equip you with the skills to deal with life transitions, cope with stressors and improve your overall quality of life.
Our team follows an eclectic approach based on your personality and the concerns at hand, drawing from cognitive-behavioural, psychodynamic, acceptance-commitment, and humanistic-existential approaches. The aim of counselling is not to give advice or solve problems. The hope is to facilitate a transformative journey via self-discovery.
Stress Management:
Stress can arise from various sources such as academics, work, relationships, financial difficulties, major life changes, or personal challenges. These stressors may impact our everyday thoughts, emotions and behaviours. In the long term, chronic stress can lead to burnout and begin to impact our health negatively. Counselling for stress and burnout takes a problem solving approach to correcting cognitive biases that might lead to unrealistic expectations, exploring alternate perspectives, replacing avoidance with acceptance, and making healthy lifestyle choices. Breathing techniques, muscle relaxation, visualizations and expressive art forms like journaling and painting are also helpful.
Relationship Counselling
Rewarding relationships are key to long-term happiness and well-being. At times, however, differences in personalities, expectations or communication patterns can lead to conflicts which impact the quality of the relationship. Counselling works towards building communication and conflict resolution skills, fostering empathy and assertiveness, and enhancing emotional connectedness for a healthier relationship dynamic.
What is the treatment?
Health Counselling
Changes in our physical health impact our mental well-being. At the same time, stress and lifestyle related choices have an impact on our physical health. Health counselling in its essence addresses this interface between physical and mental health. Through these sessions, our psychologists help you build resilience to deal with physical illnesses. At the same time, we also empower you to make healthy lifestyle choices that go a long way in enhancing your overall well-being.
Anger Management
Even though anger is a normal human emotion, it can have a disruptive impact on not just the self, but our loved ones as well. It can cascade into difficulties in our relationships as well as at the workplace. Counselling can help individuals bring this anger under control by identifying triggers and their physiological responses to anger. It can help people understand underlying causes for their anger, and learn to express themselves in constructive ways. Building acceptance, understanding alternate perspectives, regulating emotions and assertive communication are key skills to manage anger.
Grief Counselling
Losing a loved one is one of the most difficult experiences any human being goes through. Sometimes, individuals may struggle with bereavement to an extent where it impacts their readjustment with life. It’s important to reach out for help when the grief starts interfering with day to day functioning, as one struggles to lead a meaningful life. Grief therapy is a specialized psychotherapeutic approach which focuses on working through the stages of grief as one learns to cope with the emotional pain, accept the reality of the loss, readjust to life and reconstruct identity and rebuild a sense of purpose.
